IN THE SPOTLIGHT – CLAIRE GRIEVE
I started working at Carr Gomm in September 2019 and am based in Lochaber.
I had previously done very similar roles and chose Carr Gomm because everything being person-centred stood out to me on the CarrGomm website. The thing I like most about my work is seeing the positive achievements of those we support and the biggest lesson I’ve learnt to date is that every person we support is individual.
What Style/Approach Do You Use?
Being person-centred and treating every person as an individual is key. For example, you need to find out about their interests and build health and well being into those interests.
Otherwise, you risk setting yourself up for failure.
My favourite colour is yellow, the best place I’ve ever visited was St Lucia in the Caribbean, my favourite meal is an Indian and to date, I’ve lived in over 30 houses/flats/apartments!
Your Big Wins
Recently I’ve been successful in improving my health by losing weight.
My big wins with the people we support include helping them to achieve their exercise outcomes through steps and life skills outcomes through cooking.
Your Big Lessons
When trying to lose weight, I’ve noticed the importance of tracking my food and steps. This has really helped me.
My big lessons with the people we support include learning from the things that didn’t go to plan. You get to learn a lot from the experience, so it’s important to start basic and build from there.
